Kamut® grain
The
name "Kamut® grain" (pronounced Ka-moot) is taken
from an ancient Egyptian name for wheat. Legends abound as
to how Kamut® grain brand grain arrived in the US in the first
place. Some accounts say a US Airman took a few kernels from
a stone box in an ancient tomb in Dashur, Egypt shortly after
W.W.II. These kernels made their way to a Montana wheat farmer
who grew them as a novelty for several years. The novelty
wore off and the grain was all but lost, only to be rediscovered
in the late 1970's.
Although
the tomb story could never be substantiated, we do know that
Kamut® grain brand wheat is an ancient grain that has not been
hybridized and is higher in vitamin E and eight of the nine
minerals usually found in wheat; and it contains up to 65%
more amino acids than other grains.
Because
Kamut® grain is higher in lipids and protein than common wheat,
it is said to be "high energy." Its superior nutrition
makes Kamut® grain an ideal training and endurance food.
It
has been shown by nutritional analysis that Kamut® grain brand
grain is a higher energy, more nutritious grain than other
wheats. We believe, however, that its greatest asset cannot
be measured and qualified in the laboratory. That asset is
its superb taste! We know you will agree. We are so enamored
with this grain, we use it as the base not only for our Flourless
Sprouted Kamut® grain bread but also our Honey
Sprouted White with Kamut® grain. Be sure to try both varieties!
